ASNG Network = Achievement, Success and Aspiration

ASNG Network = Achievement, Success and Aspiration
The ASNG (ACCA Student News Group) Network on Linkedin is for students and professionals in accountancy looking to be more successful and has more than 17,000 members, and now research shows that Linkedin is the right network for you to join.
Personal social networks such as Facebook are used to waste time, and professional networks are used to invest time, according to LinkedIn. In a recent blog post, the career networking site discussed new research it commissioned into why people use different social media sites, and what that might mean for advertisers trying to reach them.
For example, LinkedIn says that professionals go to career sites to stay up to date with their career and expect to hear from brands 26% more than on non-professional sites. The research doesn't mention any names, but it obviously refers to Facebook when it talks about "personal" sites. People use those sites for "distraction" and to "kill time," LinkedIn says, whereas LinkedIn is for "achievement, success" and "aspiration."
The research is collected into a new report, called "The Mindset Divide" written by TNS Global, analyses the major differences between personal and professional social networking.

Expressing yourself with confidence

Picture this – you are off to a meeting, your boss will be quizzing you about your workload, you’re busy, you’re stressed, you’re unsupported, you decide to ask for support... You approach the room, you see your deadpan boss, you get nervous, you begin to feel hot, your colleagues arrive but you are too focused to engage them... you sit... you sweat... the meeting starts, and you’re on!

"Coaching is just a fad, the new kid on the block.", Discuss

Personal Coaching is a relatively new kid on the block, and is still trying to be understood.

Like a teenager, it has had it's pro's and con's kicked around by industry "parents" and academics...

Even coaching's friends have had a metaphorical poke, and despite all this, coaching still remains top of the class, positively impacting motivated people to achieve their goals, big or small!

But how can this be? Where does this "new kid" get its ability, direction and drive?

Well, it has got great Genes!

The Coaching family line comes from specific areas of psychology and counselling, physiology, schools of business leadership, reputable behavioural reviews of successful people and the latest communication theory. All of which, have been consolidated in to a respected coaching qualification.

...add that learning with the right Coach, with a persistently positive point of view, motivational focus and enthusiastic delivery... it is clear to see where it gets its strength!

And this journey of discovery allows expert coaches to challenge and support a clients motivation, and encourage them to set clear, achievable, ambitious goals, empowering them with performance skills, so they can become their own goal expert!

This unique approach set expert Coaches apart from therapist and counsellors, and typical coaching clients are not depressed, but more "stuck in a rut" and frustrated with pace of change. Consequently, coaches do not try to resolve past negative issues, and most clients are forward focused and ready for change!

Sessions can be challenging, but are always 100% focus on our clients, using definable skills to motivate and support them in a trusted environment. Most clients want to move forward NOW without hearing the “what, where and how” of coaching, but finding a coach you trust is essential.

Typically, clients have heard the positive impact of coaching, they know someone who it helped significantly, and are looking for quick change and support...

But trust in your coach is key, and like a great restaurant, most clients will go on testimonials alone, even if the kitchen is open for inspection!

Emotional Intelligence, Zero!

Tony Blair's new book, A Journey, paints a troubled picture of his leadership, particularly his personal struggles with, then Chancellor, Gordon Brown.

Clearly, unable to work effectively together in the latter days of his leadership, Mr Blair writes the main reason Mr Brown would never be leader of the party, was due to his lack of emotional intelligence,

Or as Tony put it... "Emotional intelligence, zero."

But what is all the fuse about?
What is Emotional Intelligence?
Why does it count, when you are talented in other ways?

Bank and Cash

Cash management is key to business success, and it is a sad reality that the majority of insolvencies in the UK, and actioned by PROFITABLE companies.

Making profit, striking a good deal, selling stock, is only one half of the transaction - Getting the cash is the other half, and looking at the above fact, I would suggest the more important one!

Ok, it is a bit chicken or the egg, but don't think that a sales is a sale until you have an insured credit line, or the cash!
Look outs...

New customers - ask for a prepayment on account
Be supportive - get to know your customer, partner don't simply police
Slow payers - use the law to apply pressure to pay
No credit - get insurance cover, or use an Escrow account
No insurance cover - get real, and do not risk the company on a big single transaction
Don't be shy - this is your money if they have enjoyed your service or product
Do be smart - protect a "sales" relationship by getting "credit control" to chase, even if it's your golf partner!
Think cost - cash IS a cost to the business if you have to borrow cash to by stock for resale... how much is 2-3 months interest paid on a sale... that's your cost!

...Why Coaching? Well, it works!

The use of coaching has rocketed over the last few of years.

In fact, recent research from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) states that 63% of organisations are involved in some form of coaching activity.

Coaching is now recognised as a powerful process that can benefit individuals and organisations in a number of areas, but what exactly do we mean by Coaching?

Coaching, both personal and business, is about helping people to enhance their performance and contribution to their lives and organisations.

A coach will not aim to mentor, counsel or advise, but challenge, motivate and keep you focused on the key drivers of your future goals, rather than discussing past experience and case study.

This level of focus is unlikely to be gained in any other forum, and the results speak for themselves.

Executive Coaching is typically carried out by an external coach and is normally used by key players in organisations and ambitous individuals. Being a successful leader is a lonely place at times and this approach enables you to download key issues in a neutral environment, without fear of negative outcomes, then to recharge and refocus your efforts with a trained performance professional.

Then GO FOR IT!

Personal Coaching takes on the same approach, focusing on goals in your personal life, but in reality, many area's of work and play cross over our lives, so a coaching session may discuss both if required.

Coaching will typically involve 6+ coaching sessions over a 3-12 month period. Meetings last for approximately 45 mins to 2 hours and begin with an initial fact finding session to create focus for subsequent sessions.

At the end of each coaching session, actions linked to success factors are agreed with the client to work on and reviewed at the start of the next coaching session.

What clients say about coaching

"Chris is a natural rapport builder and has the ability to keep his clients focused and on track, he asks questions that challenge, motivate and encourage the client to want to take action" Allison Marlowe - Expert Coach

"I have achieved much more in these 6 coaching sessions, than I have achieved in the past year!" Sukhveer Kaur - Trainee Barrister

"Chris helped me understand my priorties, so I can see what is important to my success and exactly where to focus my energy. I am now looking at my life in a very positive way." Gavin Chapman - Business Analyst

"I feel Chris has really moved me forward, and made me more confident of success. I feel able to influence the (career) outcome in a period of great uncertainty" Ruth Howe - Small Business Owner

How not to communicate an important point...

Coach Chris

Do share any interesting choices of communication that you hear of! Good and Bad :)

Saturday, 7 November 2009

Your Next Step is...

Towards the challenge!

One thing I love noticing, time and time again with my coaching clients is the moment when their fear and reservation about their next move, turns to forward thinking, motivation and positivity!

It's easy to see why I enjoy sharing this "light bulb" moment, but one thing that I also note with glee at this junction, is the incredible truth that only their thinking has changed, which has transformed everything!

Consider the picture above for a moment. To me, this illusion demonstrates what many of us are unaware of when going through the coaching process. The figures are all the same size (you are the same person whilst being coached), but the figure on the right appears larger than the one on the far left, as it is closest to the converging lines, let's say, closer to the action!

I believe that the closer we get to our life/career/business goal and it's likely rewards, the more motivated, bigger and confident we become in ourselves, and the more likely we are to overcome that challenge and BE SUCCESSFUL.

You need courage and you must want to move towards your ambition, but you can change your thinking if you choose, and as a result your chances of success are much much higher.

So get closer to the challenge, today!

Coach Chris
